Finding Childcare Subsidized Childcare School-Age Care Programs Resources

FINDING CHILDCARE

Finding quality childcare or after school programs for your children can be difficult, but there are many resources available that will make your search easier. Many families use a resource and referral agency (“R & R”) to locate referrals that are the most current, accurate, and reflect the licensing status of providers.

For San Leandro families, the “4Cs of Alameda County” (Community Childcare Coordinating Council) listed below is the primary referral agency for childcare and after school resources in this area.

There are many other resources available through both 4Cs and other agencies listed under “Resources for Parents and Providers”: information pamphlets, workshops, articles, multilingual caseworkers, and information on eligibility for childcare subsidies. Many of these organizations also have excellent web sites with extensive resources and information, including tips on finding the right provider, preparing your child for childcare, evaluating the “fit” with your provider, and other important related topics.

SUBSIDIZED CHILDCARE

Back to Top of Page

Subsidized childcare is sometimes available to eligible low-income families. Options for families include center based subsidized care (see listing below) or subsidized care in family day care homes or other parental choices. The agencies listed below will be able to discuss eligibility requirements, availability of subsidized care in your area, and provide more information on your options for the type of care you select.

SCHOOL-AGE CARE PROGRAMS

Back to Top of Page

The programs identified in this section are primarily after school “care” programs that are offered on a daily basis during after school hours. There are also a large number of “enrichment” activities occurring at the individual public school sites in San Leandro and San Lorenzo that are not listed here because they are not available every day. However, you will find many of these other after school activities listed in the YOUTH PROGRAMS section. Most private schools also offer after hours care and should be contacted directly for their service information.

4Cs of Alameda County is, once again, a great source of referrals for after school care programs, including school site programs like Kids Club, center-based after school care, family day care homes close to the school site of your choice, and other resources. Please refer to their web site for hours when their referral phone line is available or see the listing at the beginning of this section.

For preschool age children, please see SCHOOLS for a listing of preschools serving San Leandro and/or check with 4Cs of Alameda County for preschools that meet your individual needs.
